SRP 1.5 to 2.0 update notes
The following changes were made between SRP versions 1.5 and 2.0:
Many new "personal" items were added to the Personal Information screen. So
much, in fact, that the Personal Information section now has two screens
instead of one. See the documentation for a description of each individual
field. The following fields were added: Birth date, Number of Children,
Ability/Willingness to Travel and Relocate, and a listing of hobbies.
In the first versions, this information was not held because in general, it is
not a part of a resume. However, user comments and adddtional research (and
just plain common sense) have shown that though little or none of this
information may be asked of you by a potential employer, it never hurts to
offer the good things.
For example, an employer is not allowed to ask your age or marital status.
But if you think that if the employer will look at your resume (and, by
extension, yourself) with more favor if this information is included, then by
all means, include it.
To go along with these additions, many new print options have been added to
the Print Options screens - and a new screen to accomodate them. You may
choose how much or how little information to print based on the new questions
in print options.
It is suggested that you print several different resumes to files and pick and
choose the information to print on your final draft that way. And if you do
not like the looks of one thing or another, edit the final draft with your own
word processor.
For those of you who have 1.x versions of SRP, your data file must be
converted to be used by 2.0 and above. The program ResUp.EXE should be
included with the SRP program. To run, follow this format:
C:\> RESUP OLDFILE NEWFILE
where OLDFILE is the 1.x file, and NEWFILE is the 2.0 file to be created. Your
1.x file will not be modified by ResUp.
There are several other minor changes outlined below:
o Date of Employment has been moved to the end of the job description.
o The "Print Sex and Marriage Info" question in print options has been
split into two separate questions.
o The ESC key will ABORT all data entry on a data entry screen (be cautious)
and return to the previous menu on a menu screen. The ESC key will not exit
the program from the Main Menu.
o Code tightened and/or optimized in several spots.
o Enhanced diskette error detection for file operations.
o Detection of pre-2.0 data files.
Please see the file RESUME.DOC or RESUME.WRI for full instructions on how to
use SRP in your resume preparation.
